EVERGREEN AIR & SPACE MUSEUM EXHIBITs

A team of myself and a group of my peers worked to create three exhibition plans for the Evergreen Air & Space Museum of McMinnville, Oregon. The museum was in need of a refresh and requested three exhibit plans:

  • How Flight Works - designed for the aviation museum

  • Exploring Our Solar System - designed for the space museum

  • Mars in Motion - an interactive learning lab about Mars and its exploration efforts

Project Role: Project Manager, Designer, Research

IDEATION & PLANNING SKETCHES

In our initial planning stages, we spent a considerable amount of time on wayfinding and creating intuitive paths throughout the exhibits and museum. The unique aspect of the extremely large artifacts in the air and space museums came with the challenge of dividing the space without blocking or harming existing immovable exhibits and aircraft.

We were also tasked with creating exhibits that appealed to a wider audience. The museum’s primary audience at the time was largely older war veterans due to the lack of child friendly experiences, social and cultural elements, and technically advanced artifact signage that was incomprehensible to most patrons. To appeal to a more diverse audience, we conducted interviews with families, educators, and adults & children of varying ages. We determined the new exhibits would include more hands on experiences, child friendly additions, and the introduction of more social and cultural narratives of air & space history.
